Green Aiders Watford & Dacorum

Green Aiders

Come and Join the Green Aider Task Force in Watford & Dacorum and Make a Difference

Following previous successes in the Borough of Broxbourne, the Groundwork Hertfordshire Green Aiders volunteering programme is now commencing in Watford and Dacorum. Green Aiders is a free gardening in the community scheme, giving members of the local community and volunteers the opportunity to make a real difference to the surrounding area and to people's lives.

The Watford and Dacorum Green Aiders programme will help elderly and vulnerable people to care for their gardens.  Maintaining outdoor spaces can become a problem for people who wish to continue living independently.  It is also a sad fact that households with overgrown gardens are more likely to be victims of crime.  Green Aiders aims to help by pairing up local volunteers with neighbours who need a helping hand.

Groundwork will run sessions in the gardens of the people most in need of support.  Volunteers will be asked to come along to a session and give three hours of their time to help get the garden into shape.  No experience is necessary as Groundwork will provide training and guidance on the day.  Volunteers will then have the opportunity to help their neighbours on an ongoing basis, typically by giving one or two hours per fortnight, and can arrange their visits with the resident directly.

Becoming a Green Aider is a great way to meet new people, improve fitness and make a genuine contribution to the local community.  Everyone is welcome regardless of age or level of ability, although children must be accompanied by an adult.  Each session will offer a range of tasks and volunteers can work at their own pace, so there really is something for everybody.

This Green Aiders project has been kindly funded by Watford Police and NHS East & North Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust.
